That isn't a bad thing, it just comes down to that Summer is a really simple and easy to understand Seasonal Court. Otherwise, from what I remember, the 1st edition of CTL didn't neatly lay out what courts did in power versus out of power, which is a cool detail that every court gets. The little short they have at the beginning really summarizes how Spring stops Gentry from doing anything, and this gets nicely elaborated upon. Spring: Spring gets the biggest improvement, because it is made more explicit how their rituals and stop the True Fae. I remember someone complaining about how the Spring Court seemed pointless in the First Edition of CTL, and while I disagreed with that, their complaint made sense at the time, especially given the tone of CTL 1e. But the Courts? They're just an improvement.Īnd really, most of that comes down to that they have clear explanations of their roles, why they are able to defend successfully against the True Fae, along with just a general clarity around what each Court does. The Seemings I'll get back to, as I'll need to analyze their blessing a bit more, and otherwise reflect more on them when I get to the other chapters, as some valid points have been raised. Okay, so, the Seasonal Courts are just a clear cut improvement from Changeling the Lost 1e. I would also love to see talecrafting make a resurgence. Pledges are definitely more thematic now but I loved the old system and what a person could get up to with it. *With the exception of pledges, which I talked about in the other thread. CtL is the only setting that makes me want to move on to 2nd edition and I think it is largely* a better game. Looking forward to your read on the book.

I'm not sure how much you want to know about what comes ahead in the book so I will leave it at that and expand once you get there. I do think that putting the Seemings, Court and Kiths before even the summary of the character creation rules was a mistake, especially with a decision they made in the Kiths writeup, that leads to some confusion. There are some paragraphs that make it all a bit clearer what exactly a seeming and kith are in the character creation chapter but they are different from 1st edition. I know when I first read the book I had similar feelings about Seemings but a lot of that was a holdover from 1st edition, which will become clearer once you get to Kiths and more importantly the character creation chapter I think.
